Math made clearer.
Small-group Mathematics tuition for Primary and Secondary students at The Nautical, with a maximum of 3 students per class and close to 8 years of teaching experience.
Primary Math · Lower Secondary · E-Math · A-Math
Hi, I’m Claudia.
I’m a full-time Mathematics tutor and the founder of Ignite Math Studio.
I graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with Honours in Psychology and a minor in Life Sciences. I started tutoring while I was an undergraduate and transitioned into teaching full-time after graduation.
I’m now approaching 8 years of teaching experience, working with students across Primary Mathematics, Lower Secondary Mathematics, E-Math and A-Math.
Over the years, I’ve developed and refined my own teaching materials, notes, heuristics and practice questions based on the common difficulties and misconceptions I see in students.
I also place a strong emphasis on building good rapport with my students. Learning does not always stop when the lesson ends, so students may reach out to me via WhatsApp when they have Mathematics questions outside lesson hours.
Teaching at a glance
Mathematics programmes
Lessons are adapted according to each student's level, strengths, weaknesses and learning pace.
Primary Mathematics
Build strong foundations, mathematical confidence and problem-solving skills from an early stage.
Lower Secondary Math
Strengthen core concepts and prepare students for the greater demands of upper-secondary Mathematics.
Secondary E-Math
Develop strong conceptual understanding, question recognition and exam-ready problem-solving skills.
Secondary A-Math
Build confidence in more advanced concepts through structured explanation, heuristics and targeted practice.
Understand. Apply. Excel.
My teaching philosophy is built around a simple belief:
Every student has the potential to improve when they receive the right guidance, structure and encouragement.
My goal is not simply to help students memorise methods or complete worksheets. I want them to understand why a method works, recognise when to use it, and eventually develop the confidence to solve unfamiliar problems independently.
Deep Understanding
Build real mathematical intuition.
Lessons are planned around the concepts and chapters each student needs the most support in.
We first strengthen the student's foundation and clarify misconceptions. Once the fundamentals are secure, students learn to:
- recognise common question types
- identify the information that matters
- select the appropriate method or heuristic
- apply concepts accurately
- check whether their answers make sense
Students are then given carefully selected practice questions so that they can retain and apply what they have learnt.
Practice is also an important diagnostic tool for me. It allows me to identify what a student genuinely understands, where mistakes are occurring and what needs to be revisited.
No Spoon-Feeding
I don't simply give students the answer — I guide them towards it.
Students are encouraged to think, explore, ask questions and attempt problems independently.
Instead of immediately showing the solution, I use prompts and guiding questions to help students work through the problem themselves.
The aim is to develop students who are not dependent on a tutor to solve every difficult question, but who gradually become independent and confident problem-solvers.
Tailored Support
Every student learns differently.
My lessons are highly focused and adapted to each student's strengths and weaknesses.
I adjust:
- the pace of lessons
- the difficulty of practice
- the amount of repetition required
- the way concepts are explained
- the topics that receive additional attention
Whenever possible, I explain abstract Mathematics concepts using simple language, visualisation and relatable real-life examples rather than unnecessarily technical explanations.
With classes capped at 3 students, I am also able to closely monitor each student's progress and provide targeted guidance during every lesson.
Student progress
Every student starts from a different point. My aim is to help each student make meaningful progress in both understanding and confidence.
F9 → B3
One student progressed from F9 in WA1 to B3 for O-Levels.
NA → Express
Students have successfully progressed from the Normal Academic stream to the Express stream.
PFP
Two N-Level students successfully qualified for the Polytechnic Foundation Programme.
First B
A student who had been consistently failing Mathematics achieved her first B within months of starting lessons.
Consistent A / High B
Students have progressed from failing or barely passing to consistently achieving strong grades.
Full marks
One student recently achieved full marks for his Mathematics examination.

“Fantastic tutor – truly a gem! I’m so glad I found Claudia as a tutor for my son years ago. She’s incredibly consistent, dedicated, and genuinely committed to guiding him. Her sincerity really shows, and we’ve seen great improvements in his results over time. I’ve also recommended her to friends, and their children have made significant progress too. It’s rare to find such dedicated and passionate teachers these days – Claudia is one of a kind! 🤩”
